Chamkila was born on July 21, 1960 to a poor family in Dugri (Ludhiana). His father's name was Hari Singh and mother's name was Kartar Kaur. His childhood name was Dhani Ram. Chamkila was the youngest of two brothers and two sisters. The brothers were Lashkar Singh and Avtar Singh and the sisters were Swaran Kaur and Charan Kaur. He passed 6 classes from Dugri Primary School and then dropped out due to poverty at home. After working for some time, he started working in a factory in Ludhiana. As soon as he set foot in his youth, his first marriage was solemnized with Gurmail Kaur of Nangal village. The marriage produced two daughters, Kamaljot and Amanjot. Kamaljot is now from Canada and Amanjot Dugri is married. His second marriage was to famous singer Amarjot from whom he has a son Jaimandeep who sings a little too much.

Amar Singh Chamkila's songs were influenced by the typical rural culture and surroundings. He has mostly sung about the youth's love, alcohol, drugs, illicit relationships and Punjabis' anger and vengeance. There is an endless debate about her singing. Opponents find her singing obscene and fans say she is close to the truth. Her first double record was released in 1979 with singer Surinder Sonia. His very first song "Takua Te Takua Khadke" caused a stir in Punjab. After that, Chamkila did not look back. After this he was paired with Miss Usha for some time. But the singer who immortalized Chamkila was Amarjot. They stayed together until they died. Amarjot had earlier sung with Kuldeep Manak and several other singers. Within days, Chamkila became famous among Punjabis all over the world for her masculine Kharzdar and Amarjot Tully voice. Singers like Kuldeep Manak, Gurdas Mann and Surinder Shinda once sat at home as if in vain. In the city where the bright arena was to be set up, schools and colleges would become empty. The whole head would run to hear the bright. The wedding that looked bright was the talk of the town. Hundreds of Pakistani smugglers used to come to the arenas in villages near the border to listen to him. He would spend so much money that Chamkila would have to announce from the stage that only dollars or Indian currency would be given, Pakistani money would not work for him.

At the end of 1980, Chamkila Amarjot's doll skyrocketed. They hit one hit LP after another. Recorded by the audience. Saregama and HMV. Companies like his were begging. He was setting up several arenas in one day. An illiterate man from a poor family who may never have thought of going to Delhi, he embarked on a tour of the United States, Canada, Dubai and Bahrain. He earns Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per program. Which at that time was considered a huge amount. Instead of taking their children's wedding ceremonies away from the pandits, people kept them as a matter of time. Unlike today's vocalists, he sang with a hiccup. His party had only a drum and harmonium and a bright gourd. The gourd age has also ended with him. He is one of the few singers in Punjab who writes his own songs. Unlike other singers, he used to sing in arenas before recording. Songs were recorded only if people liked them. He did most of the work with composer Charanjit Ahuja but many songs were sung by SN. Gulati (with Deora Way Tavitan) and K.S. Also done with Narula (my dear).

Chamkila - The Legend Of Punjabi Industry, chamkila

Someone may call Chamkila good or bad, but it has to be admitted that a rich man of such a stage has not been born in Punjab till date. At the tender age of 27, he is the only one who has achieved such fame. He is called the King of Doubles. Many of his works have become milestones in Punjabi singing. According to the Saregama company, the two best-selling tapes are Mohammad Rafi and Amar Singh Chamkeela. Most of the songs in Punjabi singing have been remixed by Chamkila. Many songs have been remixed 5-6 times. He has used most Punjabi idioms in songs. He also set up three arenas in one day. In 1986, he built 366 arenas in 365 days. Today's singers are not to be found after the third album, but he has hit hundreds of hit songs in a row.

In those days looting started in Punjab. Chamkila was openly threatened with death by some groups. Shining arenas remained closed for a long time. In 1985, he composed three LPs of religious songs. Record, Baba Tera Nankana, Talwar Mein Kalgidhar Di Hain and Naam Jap Le, listeners. As usual, their cassettes also sold out. He was the first romantic singer whose songs were played in religious places in the morning and evening. His song, Baba snatched your Nankana from us, the sword belongs to Kalgidhar and the shoulders are the killers of Sirhind, the children climbed on the tongue of the child. After a while, despite the threats, Chamkila started setting up arenas again. Seeing the situation in Punjab, many of his well-wishers forbade him, but it is very difficult for such a great artist to sit idle. At last God's appointed time came. Honi surrounded him and brought him to Mahisampur village of Noormahil police station in Jalandhar district. His arena was located there when at 2 pm on March 8, 1988, he was shot dead along with Amarjot by some alleged militants on a motorcycle. The murder is suspected in the Gurdeep Singh Heran gang. There are many rumors about his murder. Some say he was killed by militants and some say he was killed by useless Singers.

Many of his songs were filmed for Punjabi films. He also made a music video for Doordarshan. In 1988, Amarjot Chamkile recorded a record 90 songs. At the time of his death, 200 of his songs were left without being sung or recorded. After his death, many of his songs have been sung by many artists including Chamak Chamkeela, Nirmal Sidhu, Amar Arshi, Gippy Grewal (My Friend Walks Through the Street) and Jaiji Bains (Leave Verne Yari). Many singers and musicians are stealing and remixing the lyrics and melodies of his songs. Even though Chamkila is not with us today, he has made his name meaningful even after his death. He is immortal today and shines like a bright star. Even today, his CDs are the best-selling among the new and old singers and his music is the most downloaded.
