Surjit Bindrakhia Will Always Be Immortal

Surjit Bindrakhia is a Punjabi singer who brings tears to the eyes of every Punjabi.For a long time I wanted to write about his life. Because Bindrakhia Sahib was also my favorite artist.Surjit Bindrakhia, one of the leading singers of Punjab who achieved the status of folk singer through his songs, was known for his singing style as well as his long hack.
Surjit Bindrakhia was born on April 15, 1962 in the village of Bindrakh in the Punjab (Rupnagar). He was born to Sucha Singh and Mata Gurcharan Kaur in the village of Bindrakh in Ropar district. His full name was Surjit Singh Bains.His father was a famous wrestler in the village And Surjit Bindrakhia also learned the tricks of wrestling and kabaddi from his father. 
Surjit Bindrakhia had also competed in several wrestling competitions at the university level. He started his musical journey with Boliyan from his college bhangra team.Surjit Bindrakhia was married to Preet Bains in 1990. He had a love marriage with Surjit Bindrakhia. For which Preet's family did not agree but the family had to bow to the wishes of both of them and both of them got married.

He learned the tricks of singing from his Guru Atul Sharma. Lyricist Shamsher Sandhu recognized his talent and brought him into the Punjabi music industry. Many hit songs written by Shamsher Sandhu were sung by Surjit Bindrakhia which was produced by Atul Sharma.
Surjit Bindrakhia became famous in a few years due to his loud voice.In the 1990s, Surjit Bindrakhia was a singer who, with his loud voice and excellent voice, introduced the Punjabi music industry to the Punjabi culture in a very beautiful and unique way in his songs.He got his first opportunity in the Punjabi music industry in 1990. 'Adi Te Ghum' was his first album. It also included Bindrakhia's song 'Jugni'.
In which he set a world record by hacking for two seconds.His song 'Dupatta Tera Sat Rang Da' became the number one Punjabi song in the UK Charts for Weeks. But even before that he had become famous as a folk singer in the rural areas of Punjab from the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties.

He got his biggest break at the international level in 1994 when he took his dupatta tera sat ranga to the heights of fame. Seeing Bindrakhia's success, many singers started playing remixes of old songs after seeing his success.But Bindrakhia was a folk singer and a bhangra singer. No singer could stand in front of his singing for long.

During his musical journey, Surjit Bindrakhia played about 32 solo audio cassettes in Punjabi music. He was originally identified with the song 'Dupatta Tera Sat Rang Da', which reached the BBC's 'Top 10' songs in 1994. 

After this song, with the song 'Tu ni boldi rakaane tu ni boldi tere ch tera yaar bolda', Surjit's fame spread all over the world. Punjabis in every corner of the globe loved Surjit's songs.He was also awarded the Special Jury Filmfare Award in 2000 for his contribution to the Punjabi music industry.

DJ Harvey and Nirmal Sidhu also dedicated the song to Surjit Bindrakhia. The song became the number one song in the first week of its release. Surjit Bindrakhia sang many hit songs including Addi Utte Ghum, Gal das de dil di, munda ki mangda, munda gulab warga, pyar kar le, galti malti maaf kardeo, in the nineties. Apart from this, he has acted in many films and also sang for films.

 In Badla Jatti Da, he sang boliyan with Surinder Shinda.He also sang for many other films. In 2002 and 2003, he developed some health problems. He was admitted to the hospital several times.The all-time happy singer passed away on November 17, 2003 at his home in Mohali 7pahse due to a heart attack.Surjit Bindrakhia, 43, died in his sleep at his residence here on the morning of November 17. 

The singer had been battling a health problem for nearly a year and was said to have died of a heart attack. According to her family members, Bindrakhia had been hospitalized more than twice in the past one year and was again admitted to a local nursing home for 10 days this month.According to people present at his house, Bindrakhia fell asleep early on the night of November 11, 2003 and woke up at 3 am when he got a glass of water after which he went for a walk in his garden and went back to sleep.

But when his wife tried to wake him up at 7 in the morning, he was dead. A family doctor was called and confirmed the news.Bindrakhia had moved to Mohali from her village Ropar three years ago and was living in Phase VII with her wife Preet, son Gitaj (11) and daughter Meenaj (9).


His widowed mother Gurbachan Kaur used to visit him from village to village. Both the children were studying in YPS School, Mohali. His wife is a housewife. But we found out that she is sick due to frequent visits to the hospital, ”recalls Ms Bhuttar, a neighbor.

His domestic help Khatim said that last night he had met some people from Ludhiana to book a show. Due to ill health, Bindrakhia has not been performing on stage for some time and his last stage show was during his USA tour.As news of his sudden death spread, friends and fans gathered at his residence in the morning but many of his well-wishers did not catch a glimpse of him as the family immediately cremated his body in his native village of Bindrakh Was although Punjab lost this great singer but even today he is remembered everywhere through songs.

Ve mai tidke ghadde da pani mai kal tak nahi rahena 'was his last sad song, in which he probably told the truth about his future. When Surjit Bindrakhia died, many people said that Surjit Bindrakhia knew Is he going to die? He had just sung this song. 

But famous lyricist Shamsher Sandhu said it was a gossip. In fact, the song was recorded a year ago. Today, no matter how many new singers come, Punjabi pop music reaches any height, but the memory of Surjit's songs will always be fresh in the heart of every Punjabi. Surjit Bindrakhia was one of the singers who had about two and a half million cassettes of hit songs in the market out of which about one hundred and seventy five have been sold in India alone. 

Many singers have paid homage to this great singer. Let us tell you that to pay homage to this great singer, the famous singer of Punjab Babbu Mann released an album called Piyas in 2005 which was dedicated to Bindrakhia and was titled Pind DiyanJuhan.Surjit Bindrakhia's son Gitaj Bindrakhia has also started his singing journey. 

Like Surjit, he has a loud voice and hopes to follow in his footsteps and rule the heart of every Punjabi.May God grant peace to the soul of Bindrakhya Ji. They will always be close to our hearts.
